As we reach the end of this school year, we just wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a lovely year it has been in Year 2. It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown by! Our classrooms have been filled with laughter, learning, creativity and so many special memories that we will treasure forever.

From exciting lessons to fun on the playground, from little triumphs to big “lightbulb” moments- we’ve witnessed so much growth in every single one of our wonderful children. They’ve amazed us with their curiosity, their kindness, and their brilliant sense of humour.

This term, the children have been busy being scientists in our planting experiment. They’ve been investigating whether plants really need both water and sunlight to grow – or could they survive with just one? After lots of careful observation and discussion, we discovered that just like us humans, plants need both water and sunlight to grow strong and healthy. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to think like scientists and really get hands-on with their learning.

We also used our planting topic to inspire our non-narrative writing in English. The children had great fun designing and writing their own seed packets, using all the knowledge they’d gained from our science work. It was a wonderful way to see cross-curricular learning in action – and the creativity was blooming, just like our plants!

To top it all off, we ended the year with two amazing events. First was our joyful Sports Day – a fun, energetic, and memorable time for children, parents, and teachers alike. The cheers, teamwork and beaming smiles made it a day to remember. Thank you to all the families who joined us and cheered the children on!

And of course, we can’t forget our fantastic end-of-year party! What a lovely way to celebrate all the hard work and special friendships made throughout the year. There was music, dancing, games, treats – and most importantly, so much laughter and joy. It was the perfect way to wrap up a brilliant year together.

To our amazing Year 2 children:
We are so proud of everything you’ve achieved this year. You’ve worked so hard, learned so much, and brought endless joy to our days. Watching you grow in confidence and character has been a privilege – and although we will miss you very much, we know you’re ready for your next adventure.

Mehjabin: I enjoyed learning about how important the Great Fire of London is. It is a part of history, and it happened in 1666.

Simon: I remember learning about Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the Americas. He is known for finding the Americas, but we know that people had already been there before him.

Inaaya: I learnt more about the UK and the world in geography. The UK is made up of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I live in one of the capital cities: London.

Avni: In the last half-term of the year, we focused on authors and what makes a great story. I think a great story should have a beginning, middle and end that captures people’s attention. There should also be a main character and lots of describing words.

As you move forward, remember to keep smiling, stay curious and always be kind. Kindness is one of the most magical things in the world – it can make someone’s day, including your own!

To our wonderful parents and carers:
Thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement and care. We couldn’t do it without you, and we’re so grateful to have you as part of the Year 2 family.

We hope you have a restful, fun-filled summer holiday, and we look forward to seeing you all in September, refreshed and ready for a brand new year.

As we end our year, we are reminded of a beautiful quote:
“Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together, they make this world a beautiful garden.”

Each of your children has brought something unique and special to our classroom and together, they’ve created a place full of joy, growth and love. We couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they’ll do next.

With all our love,
The Year 2 Team
