A huge thank you to our amazing parents for coming along and supporting us on this trip! Your encouragement, patience, and just being there for us made the experience even more special. From helping us prepare to cheering us on every step of the way, we couldn’t have done it without you- thank you!
Both Year Two classes recently embarked on an exciting trip to Tower Bridge, one of London’s most iconic landmarks. This visit was a great opportunity for the children to step into history and learn about the engineering marvel that has stood since 1894.

We Saw:
Tower Bridge is an incredible sight! The children were in awe of its tall twin towers and the high-level walkways that offer spectacular views of the River Thames and London’s skyline. Although we did not get to see the bridge’s famous bascules in action, the children were amazed to learn that they raise to allow ships to pass underneath. The glass floors on the walkways were a highlight as they allowed the children to look down and see the traffic below – a thrilling experience!

Sophia: We saw Monument and St Paul’s Cathedral in the distance.
Nahiya: There were many other landmarks to see when we were walking along the walkway. There were also noisy cars, busy people and interesting historical objects.
Maria: We had an amazing day, and the River Thames looked so long. I used a compass to find buildings in different directions.

Jahiem: I liked the trip. I really liked the glass floor. My legs were wobbly but I was brave!
Aleeza: It was so lovely to stand on the glass floor and we also spotted so many amazing landmarks that we have been learning about such as St Paul’s Cathedral and The Monument.
MD Hamza: This term we have been learning about The Tower Bridge and so it felt unreal to actually see it in real life. We saw a famous bridge!

We Did . . . and We Learned:
The children enjoyed exploring the Tower Bridge Exhibition, where they learned about the history and engineering behind this world-famous structure. We explored the interactive displays that explained how the bridge was built, how it works, and how it has played a crucial role in London’s history. We even got to see some old photographs and documents showcasing the bridge’s construction! The children were fascinated by how Tower Bridge was designed to combine both a busy road and a bascule lift to allow large boats to travel underneath along the River Thames. They learned that it was a technological innovation at the time and why it was so important for London’s development. We also discussed how the bridge symbolises the growth of London into the modern city it is today, which connects with our studies about the United Kingdom and our place within it.
Syntia: We visited the engine room, and we counted all the stairs.
Adiyan: We explored inside the tall towers, and we walked above the bridge to see below. Did you know it can open!
Husnain: On our trip, we got to the top by climbing the steps. We thought there were about 190, but there were 206.

The Tower Bridge visit brought the historical topics we have been learning about in the classroom to life, plus the experience definitely sparked curiosity, learning, and an understanding of the UK.
