In Year Three, our Philosophy for Children (P4C) sessions have focused on developing essential skills for resolving conflicts. P4C is all about encouraging children to think critically, listen carefully, and engage with others in meaningful discussions. This term, one of the core themes we explored was how to resolve conflicts peacefully and respectfully.

Through philosophical discussions, students have learned to consider different perspectives, empathise with others, and find solutions that benefit everyone involved. Instead of jumping to conclusions or reacting impulsively, they have been encouraged to ask questions like: “What would make both people feel heard?” and “How can we find a solution that works for everyone?” These thoughtful approaches help them navigate disagreements calmly and respectfully.
The goal is not only to address the conflict at hand but also to develop a mindset that values communication, understanding, and cooperation. By practicing these skills, students are gaining confidence in their ability to handle challenges, both inside and outside the classroom. It’s all about creating a community where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected.
