We had a lovely time wearing our science jackets and getting our observation eyes on. We received a letter from Fireman Sam. He had a big problem.

What material would we choose? Wood, metal, paper, fabric or plastic?

As scientists we knew we could help Sam so we set out to learn about different types of material.

We felt all the materials. We had wood, paper, metal, plastic and fabric. Then we decided what would work best, some people suggested feathers to keep his hands warm but we didn’t have any of those!

The creating of the glove:

We chose the material we would like to make a glove for our toy, and in our groups we set to work.

The Testing: We agreed to 5 seconds in the water for each glove.

Final Outcome:

We agreed that in this instance that the plastic glove did a good job keeping the giraffes foot dry.
