Dear Parents and Carers

It’s been another busy week at Lansbury Lawrence, with lots of exciting learning and trips happening. See below for a few of the highlights…

Young Voices 2020

The School Choir performed at the Young Voices Concert 2020 at London’s 02 Arena this week. It was an absolutely spectacular night! More than 5,000 students from across London and the South East performed songs or dances at the event. This is just one in a series of five Young Voices concerts, which take place right across the country. We spent weeks preparing for the event. Our big moment was between 7pm and 9pm, as everyone sang as one for a packed audience. The children sang their hearts out and really enjoyed singing and dancing along with the professionals.

Gong hei fat choy!

This week Early Years have been celebrating Chinese New Year. Poppy Class learnt about how in China people dress up as dragons and lions and perform street dances. They made their own masks and performed to the music of chinese drums.

Year 6 visit the Imperial War Museum

Year 6 went to the Imperial War Museum to support our learning on World War II. We were stunned by the range of exhibits from all the different periods of war this country has faced. We explored the different floors and learnt many things including the role of the doodlebug, the different tanks and the vast range of medals that have been awarded. Make sure and ask your child what they learnt!

Building Muscles

Hepworth class had a go a building muscles out of cardboard and elastic! It was quite tricky, but we worked in pairs….just like muscles! The cardboard represents our bones, the elastic bands as pairs of muscles, and the pins show our tendons which hold our muscles to our bones. Muscles have to work in pairs for us to move and so when one muscle contracts, the other relaxes.
