Yesterday, Hokusai class had the pleasure to visit some real, ancient Roman ruins. Luckily, it was a short journey to Guildhall art gallery and the weather was lovely, so we had a wonderful time on our visit. Our guide, Andrew, is an archaeologist and told us lots about ancient Roman Britain and the ruins underneath our feet.

Our Roman Empress

The referee!

We also had a pretend gladiator fight just like they used to have in the amphitheatre during the Roman times.

The gladiators fought bravely
The Roman soldier made sure the spectators behaved well

We looked at some Roman artefacts and guessed what they were made of, what they may have looked like when they were whole/new and what they could have ben used for. We even saw a real Roman coin.
