The annual Tower Hamlets Book Award is just one of the exciting events made possible through subscriptions to the Tower Hamlets Schools Library Services. It is for pupils aged 10 to 13 (Years 5 to 8) and the aim is to encourage children to share the pleasure of reading, to bring them together and to enable debate and discussion about books.
At Lansbury Lawrence, every child in Year 5 and 6 had a chance to read and vote for the best book on the shortlist.
Last Thursday, 10 children (Year 5 and 6) had the privilege to attend the great finale event with performances, quizzes and competitions.
We met three guest authors: Ann Sei Lin, Tanya Landman and JP Rose. They signed our books and answered some of our questions. It was surreal to see the author of my favourite book in person! T.N. Year6
Some of our students also took part in the art competition based on the shortlist books. They were challenged to create an artistic response of their choice to any of the 6 Book Award books.
Rebel Skies was voted best book in the 2023 Tower Hamlets Book Award. Well done Ann Sei Lin!
We are looking forward to the 2024 TH Book Award!
