Two festivals to learn about and celebrate.
Diwali – The Festival of Light – Celebrating the Hindu faith.
The children really enjoyed learning all about Diwali. We loved making Rangoli patterns in our doorway, on pathways and on paper.
Bonfire Night:
We enjoyed learning why we have Bonfire Night. We had masks and puppets so we could act out being King James and Guy Fawkes. The children learned about the attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to build our rockets and our imaginations to create a firework scene.
2D shapes: After learning about 3D shapes we moved on to 2D shapes: rectangles, squares, circles and triangles.
The children learned the properties of shapes. The circle has one side. The triangle has three sides that are straight. The square has fours sides the same size and the rectangle has four sides, two short and two long. We worked in small groups and searched for shapes in images from our environment. We found many shapes in the environment. We had a go at folding a square and seeing what shape we could make. Some of the children made a triangle.
To compliment this learning, Miss Glen popped to the Tate Modern in the holidays and took some photos of abstract art using shape. These pictures were stuck to the art easel and the children encouraged to make their own abstract art using a range of paints and brushes.
Handwriting: Lots of parents and children have joined Google Classroom. On Google Classroom Miss Glen has put 4 handwriting videos in letter families.
