This term, our Year 2 classes have been having an exciting time learning all about Living Things and their Habitats! They’ve been lucky enough to spend time in our wonderful Edible Garden, where they’ve been exploring the plants and animals with the help of Joe and Ms Boglietti. They’ve discovered the many creatures that call our school grounds home, from the secret garden to the little microhabitats under logs.

In class, they’ve also been learning about different habitats around the world, like the icy cold polar regions, the dry deserts, and the deep, mysterious oceans. It’s been amazing to see them so excited about the animals and plants that thrive in these places. Be sure to ask your child what they’ve been learning about these unique habitats—you’ll be amazed at all the interesting things they’ve discovered!

The first week of the term has been a big hit! The children have settled back into their routines and jumped into their new learning with so much enthusiasm. One of the biggest highlights of the week was the start of our Forest School program. They explored the habitats around the school, especially near the ponds, to see what living things they could find. The children also had a chance to build a real fire using only natural materials. They learned all about fire safety, teamwork, and how to make fire the traditional way. What a fantastic hands-on experience!

Forest School has brought our learning to life in an inspiring way, reminding us that nature is the ultimate classroom. Every leaf, every stone, and every creature has its own unique story to tell. It has been wonderful to see the children develop a deeper connection with the natural world, and we are excited to continue exploring and learning together in the weeks ahead.

some comments by our explorers:

“Wow! I could smell the trees and the grass near the pond.” Eva

“Look at the slugs under the log! That’s their cosy little home.” Jahiem

“Worms need a habitat just like us! It’s important to take care of all living things.” Noora

“I wonder if there’s a mouse near the pond? It would be so cool to see one!” Shah

A big thank you to Jo and Ms. Boglietti for guiding the children through these exciting and educational activities.
