This half term, year 5 have been learning all about Space. They have transformed parts of their classroom and the corridor with space themed displays that show off some of their beautiful recreation of the solar system. They have learned what the solar system is made of, the names of different planets, about the sun and the moon, and how we get day and night. They role played being different planets orbiting the sun, which was great fun as they struggled to stay in their orbit unlike the real planets! Below are some images of a lesson where they learned about the moon’s orbit around the Earth. They role played the orbit of the moon using resources such as a ball (moon), lots of bright torches (sun) and a pupil on a chair who was modelling planet Earth. As the moon was orbited around the Earth, pupils could see, and understand, how we see the different phases of the moon because of the sun’s light reflecting on it. They really enjoyed this task and wrote some wonderful reflections about it. This is a brief summary of their learning journey. Please ask them questions about it so they can tell you more!
