Hello everyone, for Science this term, year 1 classes have been learning about Materials. They have been focusing on distinguishing between different objects and the materials that they are made from. They went on a ‘material hunt’ around their classroom to find objects, then noted the materials these objects were made from. They worked as real Scientists by collecting this data and putting it in a tally chart. They started to notice the most popular materials that are used for classroom objects such as plastic, wood, metal and glass. They then used their knowledge of last term’s Science about the Properties of Materials to discuss why those materials are popular. Some things they said were because they are strong, smooth, transparent and waterproof. Please ask the children to tell you more about their learning and maybe practice naming some objects at home and the materials they are made from.
