Our maths learning this week has been all about subitising. Subitising is the ability to look at a set of objects and instantly know how many there are without counting them. The children have already learned how to subitise numbers 1-3. This week we have been focused on the number 4.
We have learned that if we have 4 objects, we will always be able to put them into a square shape, similar to how 3 objects will always make a triangle. We have been collecting 4 items and placing them into a square to solidify our subitising skills.
We had so much fun learning how to subitise the number 4, especially when we made our very own tertrominoes which are shapes made up of 4 squares. We made a range of them and had a great time doing so.
