On Friday maths leaders, teachers and specialists came together at South Rise Primary School for a full day of professional development and collaboration in maths! Primary schools were represented from Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, Bexley, Lewisham and Southwark where we observed learning in the classrooms and unpicked curriculum design and planning in year group teams.
There are many different schemes of learning used in schools to support the teaching of mathematics and we spent the afternoon referring to NCETM materials and S – Planning to map out coherent learning journey’s within units of work.
Colleagues considered which representations to use, precise mathematical language to teach and broke down the learning journey into small steps. We were able to map out the start of a learning journey in Early Years right the way through to Year 6.
Our next Teacher Research Group will focus on lesson design! Maths Hub London South East+ (mathshublondonse.co.uk)
