Year 6 had an inspiring day, working with the Akram Khan dance company. Akram Khan Company has established itself as one of the foremost innovative dance companies in the world. Year 6 watched the Chotto Desh performance first, before a Q&A session with dancers from the company. They explored themes around migration, and having family from other countries. Akram Khan’s parents are from Bangladesh. Some of year 6 have visited Bangladesh themselves, so they recognised the sounds of the traffic and the performance stirred memories of visiting family. We thought of words around feelings of home and being away from home. Chotto Desh means ‘small home’ in Bengali.
After watching the performance, year 6 had a dance session with Corinne and Emma. They put movement to feelings before working in small groups to create wonderful stories.
