On Monday, our Year 6 students had the incredible opportunity to step into the shoes of professional news reporters for a special workshop hosted by Sky TV. The excitement in the air was palpable as the students prepared to create their very own 90-second news report focused on the inspiring story of Marcus Rashford.
Working in groups of 4-5, our young reporters kicked off the workshop by meticulously planning each section of their news report. They brainstormed and wrote scripts to ensure their segments were both informative and engaging. Equipped with iPads, the students then fanned out across different areas of the school, transforming familiar spaces into dynamic newsrooms.
The filming process was a flurry of activity, with students taking turns to present, direct, and record their clips. It was wonderful to see them collaborate, honing not only their technical skills but also their abilities to communicate and work as a team.
Once the filming wrapped up, the budding journalists dived into the editing phase using Adobe Rush software. They learned how to trim clips, add transitions, and incorporate text and music to polish their final news reports.
The grand finale of the workshop was the screening of each group’s news report. The creativity and dedication of the students shone through in every clip, making the judging process a challenging task. Ultimately, Group 6 (Rayyan, Ansaarah, Sofia, Aisha M, and Tasnim R) impressed everyone with their professional and engaging news segment. Their reward? Fantastic goodie bags from Sky TV and the prestigious honour of being the winning team.
But the excitement doesn’t end there! All the groups’ films have been entered into the Sky TV Edit Competition. The winning team from this competition will be granted an amazing opportunity to work with Sky, visit their broadcasting set, and even record an actual news segment.
We are incredibly proud of all our Year 6 students for their hard work and enthusiasm. This workshop was more than just a fun activity—it was an invaluable learning experience that gave our students a glimpse into the world of broadcasting and journalism.
