Our Journey To The Crossrail Place Roof Garden!

It was slightly chilly today, so we all wrapped up warm (thank you parents!).

We were super excited to embark on our journey to the Crossrail Place Roof Garden as we have been learning about our gardens. In fact, this term our theme is ‘Our Garden – What plants are growing in our Edible Playground?‘

We walked to the Langdon Park DLR Station and took caution when stepping in and out of the train as it was pretty slippery!

We took care of our learning partners on our way to the gardens.

Once we arrived at the gardens, we couldn’t wait to split up into groups and go exploring!

We used our observing skills to spot different colours, textures and shapes around us.

**Children explored the garden with their friends**

“These leaves are pointy like carrots” – Hiyab

“Those leaves looks like my hand” – Ayaan

Zakai and Nabil sketched out plants that they found interesting.

Children were curious about the plants surrounding them

There were lot’s of interesting facts about plants!

Children observed the plants and sketched each part of a flower like the stems, leaves and petals.

Children also noticed that some plants looked like 3-D shapes they learnt last term. For example, there was a bush that looked like a sphere and windows that were shaped

Children were fascinated by the details of these flowers. They talked about the variation of colours in the petals. Jethro and Ayaan liked the yellow colour because it was vibrant.

Children also discussed how the flower tricks people. From a distance the flower gives an illusion of a spiky sphere but, if you look closely it has individual petals growing in the same direction, that gives it the curved shape.

Some children decided to sketch this at the garden and painted it in the afternoon.

After that, we returned to school and painted our sketches. Here are just a few of them!
