Over the past few weeks, year 6 have been focussing on developing their textile skills. They practised running stitch, back stitch, cross stitch and satin stitch. They also challenged themselves creatively, to think of a design incorporating embroidery and embellishment. They began by working independently, and the work was brought together at the end to create an amazing patchwork of fantastic textiles.

Me and my class tested out stitching and creating different designs using our imagination to make the image. Using a regular needle, we embellished our embroidery by using cross stitch, back stitch, running stitch and satin stitch to change the way the string appears. I enjoyed this challenge and I learned how you can produce interesting pieces of art even with random or unusual types of material.

We made textiles using stitches and needles. During this time, I was persistent with my work because it was difficult, however I managed to do it. I was imaginative with my textiles as I used different stitches boosting my confidence with it. My favourite part was when everyone had created a different design and I got to see them. I also enjoyed when we were stitching.
