Both classes in Year 4 are learning all about the Anglo-Saxons this half term, and as part of that, we have been exploring the legend of ‘Beowulf’. After a few days where we delved into the story, we had an exciting session on Wednesday with the Ministry of Stories.
First they worked in groups to create the monster Grendel from the story ‘Beowulf’. The students really enjoyed creating their monsters and adding their own designs. Secondly, the students worked as a team to bring their puppets to life through movements and sounds. Each child was responsible for a different part of the puppet and they performed their actions.
Then with the help of their teacher, they described the monster’s movements and created complex sentences. The students were encouraged to expand their vocabulary.
Year 4 really enjoyed their workshop and are looking forward to their next session!
