Year 6 have been learning about Early Islamic Civilisation. In art, we have been looking at the work of contemporary artist, Zarah Hussain. Hussain is an artist who lives and works in London, and who has been inspired by her heritage and the geometric patterns of Islamic art.
We explored several geometric patterns, practising and developing our skills in our sketchbook. For some of year 6 this was the first time they had used a compass, and over the past few weeks they have demonstrated their resilience to now be able to use a compass confidently. Geometry is a very precise form of maths, that requires patience and careful measurement. Our final pieces of work also required careful painting to consider symmetry and balance.
