Delaunay dared to climb the iconic 311 steps to the top of The Monument this week as part of learning all about the Great Fire of London.
After taking in the breathtaking views at the summit and asking each other what we could see across London’s skyline, we stopped to learn more about the design of the structure created by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke.
Children enjoyed delving into the historical meanings behind the sculpted sides, and, knowing that Thomas Farriner’s bakery was just a stone’s throw away, we were spurred on to explore the surrounding cobbled streets in search of where the Great Fire actually began over 360 years ago.
Many thanks to the parents who supported the trip and made it the joyful experience that it was.
