The Arts Council went on a research trip to the Whitechapel Art Gallery today. We visited the Popcorn! exhibition. Popcorn! is a participatory exhibition by artist Jenny Pengilly which invites audiences of all ages to explore the sonic world through our voices, bodies, and props.

We wanted to research activities that we could bring back to school and create our own ‘creation station’. We were interested in activities that would be calming, activities that would encourage talk and conversation, and activities that were fun! We took away ideas around threading, sewing and making instruments. We also enjoyed recording our voices.

We were very fortunate to meet the artist while we were at the gallery too, who told us more about the ideas behind the works… including creating sounds through wearing different shoes on different surfaces!
