On Friday, in Year 2, our children had a fantastic time working on problem-solving skills through a fun and interactive dice game! The challenge was all about addition, strategy, and a little bit of friendly competition. It was wonderful to see the children engaged and excited as they worked together, using dice to create sums and test their math skills.
Here’s how we played:
Game 1: Dicey Addition Grid
Each child drew an addition grid and took turns rolling a 0-9 dice. The goal was simple: roll the dice, decide where to place the number in their grid, and aim to make the sum of their grid as close to 100 as possible. After four rolls, we added up the numbers in each grid and compared totals.
The winner? The person whose grid total was closest to 100!
This game is a wonderful way for children to practice addition while learning about strategy, decision-making, and number placement.
Game 2: The Challenge Continues
For Game 2, we added a bit more excitement. After four rolls of the dice, children decided where to place the numbers in their grid—again aiming to get as close to 100 as possible. The rules were similar, and the children continued to work through the rounds, focusing on strategic placement of their numbers.
Why Not Try This at Home?
Looking for a fun and educational activity to do at home? Why not try playing this dice game with your child? It’s a great way to practice addition, sharpen number sense, and improve decision-making skills—plus, it’s a lot of fun!
Math doesn’t always have to be about worksheets or lessons—turn it into a playful challenge, and watch your child’s excitement and skills grow!
We hope you and your child will try this game together, whether it’s at home or as part of a family game night. You’ll be amazed at how much learning can happen through play.
We hope you and your child will enjoy this activity together—after all, the more we play, the more we grow. Let’s keep learning with joy and curiosity!
