Yesterday, Year 2s set of on a journey to The Monument, bringing our learning about the Great Fire of London to life in the most exciting way! This iconic landmark, standing tall in the heart of London, provided the perfect backdrop to deepen our understanding of this important event in history.
The highlight of our trip was the climb to the top—an impressive 311 steps! While it was challenging, the children amazed us with their resilience and determination. Every step was a reminder of their willingness to push themselves, and their excitement to reach the top was contagious. As we finally stood at the top, taking in the breath taking panoramic views of our city, it felt like we had all accomplished something extraordinary together. It was a moment of pride and wonder.
This trip was more than just a day out—it was an opportunity for the children to connect with history in a hands-on, meaningful way. They explored how the Great Fire is remembered through this magnificent structure, and it sparked so many questions and ideas about the past. It was heart warming to see their faces light up as they linked what we’ve learned in the classroom to the world around them.
One of the best moments of the day was when each child received their very own certificate for climbing to the top of The Monument! Their faces lit up with pride as they held their certificates, and it was lovely to see how much it meant to them. The certificates are a wonderful reminder of their hard work and determination, and something they can treasure for years to come.
A big thank you to the wonderful parent volunteers who joined us and supported the children throughout the day. Your help made the trip run so smoothly, and your encouragement helped the children tackle those 311 steps with confidence and smiles. We couldn’t have done it without you!
As we reflect on our day, this quote perfectly captures the experience: “The best view comes after the hardest climb.” What a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we persevere!
