This term, we have been learning about the four Ancient Civilisations – Ancient Egypt, Ancient Sumer, Indus Valley and Shang Dynasty. We used the internet to research more about these civilisations.

by Isa and Masod

We researched about how the people in Shang Dynasty wrote. Me and Masod found out people lived 3000 years ago. They etched characters and pictures onto bones. Shang writing is known as “oracle bone scripts”. They carved words into bones. They used to write on bones to predict the future. The Shang were the first Chinese people to invent writing.

We researched transport during the Indus Valley. We found out that they were the first to use wheeled transport. The people used camels, oxen and elephants to travel over land. They had ships that used to sail in the Arabian Sea. They used carts, similar to what is still used around India and Pakistan today. Boats were also used in trade. Boats carried goods down rivers. Boats are still used to transport goods around the world today.

We researched about public buildings during Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt was a civilisation in Northeast Africa situated in the Nile Valley. They had Egyptian pyramids. People in Ancient Egypt walked, rode donkeys or travelled by a wagon. They made their houses with brick and mud. They made pyramids, tombs, temples and palaces out of stone, the most durable of all buildingĀ materials.
