This half term we explored the question; What were some of the key causes and consequences of WW2? To support our understanding and to develop our knowledge, learning has taken us through history, geography and a class trip to the Imperial War Museum.
These pictures were taken in the Imperial War Museum where we experienced life for evacuees and those left behind in the city during the Blitz. We were surprised to see how cramped and small an Anderson Shelter was and could not imagine having to hide in their during the bombing of London. Children and families must’ve been terrified to hear the constant bombardment of Nazi bombs.
In Maths, we have continued to fine tune our arithmetic skills by mastering formal algorithms and sharpening our mental strategies to help us solve equations with efficiency and accuracy. Our units of learning have been fraction, decimals, percentages and ratio – we realised they are all connected! Making these connections within maths allows our working memory to free up space so we can apply these skills to more complex problems. Some of our class completed six sessions of Maths Masterclass at Langdon Park, which focussed on a range of problem solving skills and activities delivered by the Royal Institute of Science.
In science, we made simple circuits and draw diagrams using correct symbols. We also explored online platforms to make and test a range of circuits and considered the impact on brightness of bulbs with additional batteries or cells.
In PE we have been learning about Carnival and formed our own dance crews. We created a sequence of moves to perform our own carnival dance and shared with each other in class. We were then able to offer ideas on how to improve our movements.
