year 2 had a great time this afternoon investigating the properties of materials. They got to test whether different materials such as wood, glass, plastic, brick, card, paper and metal are waterproof, fireproof, strong and see-though. They thought about which material they would use to build a house and gave their reasons for choosing that material based on it’s properties. Children tested the card and paper themselves but left the fire to Nathan (from our school premises team) who turned into a physics professor for the afternoon and demonstrated what happened to the materials when they came into contact with fire! Children loved watching some of the materials burn! It was nice to hear children using scientific language such as burning, waterproof, heatproof, soaking and properties to discuss their learning from today.
