This week Reception had a visit from Becky, a musical storyteller. She brought 2 instruments with her, a ukulele and a cello. Becky used these instruments to bring the story of Mikku and the Trees to life.
This is an Estonian story about a man who one day goes into the forest to chop down a tree to make himself a fire, but the trees start talking to him and telling him how useful they are. So instead Mikku collects twigs and leaves for his fire. Mikku is then rewarded with a magical power to get help from nature, just as long as he doesn’t go against nature. He is given honey by the bees and berries by the birds, but one day Mikku grows lazy and grumpy, and decides to make the sun shine and melt the snow in winter so his magical power is taken away!
We also met Boris the bird who helped Becky tell the story.
At the end of the session we had a great time moving to the music and pretending to be the birds in the forest, we had scarves to use as wings.
