Hirst Class End of Half Term Celebration

This half term Hirst Class have been using a range of manipulatives to solve mathematical problems in fractions, percentages and decimals which the children enjoyed and found it made math much more fun and easy to understand.

  • Muminur and Rayyan worked together using counters and then drawing their own representations of the problem.
  • David used counters to support his understanding of the structure of Ratio problems.

    We also learnt about The Huguenots: London’s First Refugees. They were Protestants fleeing persecution in France in the 16th-18th centuries and originated the term ‘refugee’ and made an immeasurable contribution to the life of this country. In Art, the children drew a representation of the Huguenot symbol.

    Hirst Class have been reading The Boy at the back of the Class , which is about a refugee boy and they have had enjoyed writing diary entries, setting descriptions and persuasive letters based on the book. They also worked together in small groups to write and perform a poem based on the boy’s journey to England.

    In Science we Identified how animals are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and we
      recognized that animals camouflage in different ways for a number of reasons. The children had an opportunity to design a moth using concealing coloration camouflage or disruptive coloration.     Here are some of the children’s moths camouflaged in Lansbury Lawrence playground.
