As part of STEAM Day Van Gogh class chose the E in the word and took the monumental task of designing and building a structure that is strong enough to hold the weight of as many books as possible. How did they get on with this challenge?

The children worked in teams to see how they could use scarp piece of papers and masking tape to create their structures. Most of the teams chose to create bridges. They rolled up their papers to make a standing bridge and used different shapes to strengthen their bridges.

The children decided that squares and rectangles made for good shapes to strengthen their standing bridges. The winning team were able to built a bridge that held the weight of 12 books.

Have a go at home and see if you can beat our winning team.
