This half term year 6 are studying Ancient Islamic Civilisations, with a focus on the Golden Age of Islamic Culture. Because of this, we were lucky enough to have Millie Knight from the Courtauld Institute of Art come to teach us an online lesson on Art and Maths. Our lesson was centred around geometric artwork, as Islamic artists frequently use geometric design in their works of art.

Our students looked at symmetry in art and used this to help them reconstruct an ancient Maiolica Plate. They also utilised angles and rotations to create their own Kufic Tiles from their initials.

The students loved the experience and were very grateful for the opportunity to learn about the culture through art and maths.
