Year 1 had an exciting and creative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) Day, filled with hands-on learning and lots of fun! The children explored science and art by making their own bath bombs and creating beautiful salt paintings.

Making Bath Bombs

Year 1 students had a blast making their very own bath bombs! It was a fun and fizzy science experiment that combined creativity, sensory play, and a little bit of chemistry.

We started by mixing baking soda, citric acid, and cornflour to create the perfect base. Then, we added a few drops of water and essential oils to give our bath bombs a lovely scent. We used a range of essential oils like Bubble-gum, Candy Floss, Chocolate and Tutti Frutti. The children loved choosing different colours to mix in, watching as the powders transformed into vibrant, scented mixtures.

Once everything was combined, we carefully packed the mixture into moulds and left them to dry. The best part? Testing them out later! The children were fascinated to learn how the ingredients reacted with water, creating the exciting fizz we all love in bath bombs.

This activity was not only enjoyable but also a great way to introduce basic science concepts in an engaging and hands-on way. We are so proud of our little scientists and can’t wait for more exciting experiments in the future!

Well done, Year 1!

We used ‘biodegradable glitter’ for our bath bombs so it won’t block your sinks/drains!

Year 1 Salt Painting Fun!

Year 1 students explored a fantastic and creative art activity—salt painting! It was a magical experience that combined art and science, leaving our young artists curious and fascinated.

We began by drawing simple designs on thick paper using PVA glue. Then came the exciting part—sprinkling salt over the glue and shaking off the excess. The real magic happened when we added watercolour paint! With just a gentle touch of the brush, the colours spread beautifully along the salt, creating stunning effects that looked like tiny fireworks or colourful rivers.

This activity was not only fun but also a great way to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity. The children loved watching the colours blend and flow, and they were excited to see their designs come to life in such a unique way.

We were so proud of the wonderful artwork created, and we can’t wait for more exciting art adventures in the coming weeks!

Take a look at some of the work children produced!

Nora brought her imagination to life and it looked amazing!
Yusra was super proud of her snowflake!

Children enjoyed participating in both experiments and had lot’s of fun with their friends. You can absolutely try making your own bath bobs and salt paintings at home. Just check out our recommended videos online linked below:
