Dear Parents and Carers

As we approach the end of the half term, there are a few dates to put in your diaries. This half term, our parent exhibitions will be on Thursday 13th February. You are invited to come in to your child’s classroom to share what they have been learning. Each class devises it’s own exhibition, and it’s lovely to see performances, presentations, singing and creativity across the whole school. Parent exhibitions begin at 3.15pm.

The last day of this half term is Friday 14th February, with school finishing at the usual time of 3.30pm.

Healthy Fruit Salad

This term in Hokusai class we have been learning about how to stay healthy by eating nutritious foods and exercising. We have learnt the differences in food groups and what we need to eat to ensure our bodies get the right nutrients. We know that fibre (fruit and vegetables) should make up 50% of our diets, so we decided to make fruit salads in class. After learning important food hygiene rules and knife skills, we started making our fruit salads out of apples, bananas, mandarins, watermelon and blueberries. The students all took turns cutting, peeling and slicing different fruits to make their very own fruit salad.

Year 3 exhibition at Tate Britain

Year 4 visited Tate Britain to view a very special exhibition. Last year, we had a photogrpaher come in to school to take class photographs as part of the Year 3 project by the artist, Steve McQueen. McQueen had hundreds of school photographs taken of year 3 children across London, and they are now on display in the Duveen Galleries at Tate Britain. In amongst all of the photographs, we found ours – year 4 are on display at the Tate! We even found photographs of Shari and Talha, who are new to Lansbury Lawrence, with their old classes. The exhibition is on until May 3rd, if you would like to go and visit.

Making Bird Feeders

Joe, our school gardener, worked with year 2 to make bird feeders to hang in our school playground. It was such a fun lesson and we were helping nature too.

Arts Council visit Duncan Court

The Lansbury Lawrence Arts Council have started a new project with our local extra-care home, Duncan Court, organised by arts organisation, Magic Me. We are looking forward to the project developing over the next couple of months, and making art together with artists, Mia and Polly. Today we visited for the first time and found out about each other by playing pass the parcel with questions in, and by giving each other bath bombs we had made with even more questions in! We found out about our favourite breakfasts, things we dream about, and our favourite TV shows. Most of all though, we began to get to know each other.
