Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year! We have lots of exciting learning and trips planned for the term ahead. Please see the key dates within this newsletter for up-coming events. As always, we need parent volunteers to support our trips; please do see your child’s teacher if you are able to help. There are also further creative volunteering opportunities to support learning within school, please see the bottom of this newsletter for more information.

It’s very important your child attends school every day. If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please call the school on 0207 987 4589 and leave a message letting us know why.

Who lives in the Secret Garden?

Year 2 have had a great start to 2020 this week. Our new learning theme is all about the Secret garden and it’s amazing habitats and we had a brilliant time exploring our outside learning spaces.

Introducing woodwork in reception

During Circle-Time we introduced the hammer and nails and talked about how to use them safely. Then we practised using them. We used the woodwork bench in small groups, always wearing our goggles, and next week we will introduce other tools. The children have been enjoying making cars. What fantastic young designers!

Anglo Saxon and Scots immersion day

Riley class had a fun day immersing themselves into their new learning theme this term which is, Anglo Saxons and the Scots. They learnt a brief timeline of Anglo Saxon history which they will deepen their knowledge on this term. They made a map of early Britain with its different kingdoms and did some research about who the Anglo Saxons were. It was a great start to what will be another fantastic term!

Creative Volunteering

This term, the Lansbury Lawrence Arts Council will be working with Magic Me on a project with the residents at our nearby extra-care home, Duncan Court. We have a good relationship with Duncan Court, and are looking forward to working more within our community. Magic Me would like parent volunteers to support the sessions, which are running over the rest of this term on Thursday afternoons. Please see the attached poster, and if you are available to support please see Ms Sellens in school for further information.

Do you like sewing?

This half term, year 6 will be sewing during their Design and Technology lessons on Wednesday afternoons. If you would like to support these sessions in class, please see Ms Sellens.
