This week in Shireen class as part of our STEM learning, we have been looking at our 5 senses. We have discovered lots through putting our senses to the test! First we went on a listening walk around the EYFS playground to test our hearing, we know that we hear and listen with our ears. We had a checklist to help us tick off all the things we may hear in the playground, we heard the children playing, some birds tweeting and an airplane even roared loudly above us! We listened to musical instruments too!

Next we tested our sense of smell! We know we use our nose to smell. We smelled different things such as mustard (which was not very nice!), vinegar which lots of the children recognised from fish and chips, eucalyptus and chocolate (very popular!)

Testing our sense of taste was one of our favourite lessons as we got to try lots of delicious foods like salty pretzels, sweet honey and savoury popcorn. We also tried sour lime, bitter dark chocolate and vinegar! We made funny faces when we tasted the lime!

Finally we learned that we use our fingers and skin to touch. We had a go at touching different materials such as a scouring pad which we thought was very rough, rubber gloves, a silky tea bag and some sensory stones. We have loved testing our senses and have been very brave trying new things!
