This week Year 5 went on an exciting trip to……Chrisp Street Market! We were looking at the fruits and vegetables and recording where in the world they came from. We also noted whether they were wrapped in plastic packaging. Some of us noticed Fair Trade labels too.

Back in class we used maps and a food miles calculator to work out the climate zones the items came from and how far they had travelled.

We learnt that the further something has travelled, the bigger their carbon footprint. So, how can we make the world a better place when we go shopping? By trying to choose foods that are more local, choosing foods that are not wrapped in plastic and where possible, are fairly traded.
