In Shireen class we love to learn about and celebrate all cultures. This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year, we found out that a long time ago the Jade Emperor wanted to measure time in years. He had animals race and the first 12 to finish had a year named after them as part of the Zodiac calendar. 2025 is the year of the snake!

Our classroom was decorated with red lanterns and red envelopes. Red is worn on Chinese New Year as it is believed it is a lucky colour! We also watched the dragons dance and even got the chance to wear a dragon head ourselves! We made our own Chinese fans and paper lanterns by cutting and folding, which we really enjoyed. In the home corner we tried out chopsticks, some of us mastered it!

We listened to some Chinese music and let the music guide our drawings. We created some beautiful patterns and found it very relaxing.

To finish our celebrations, we tasted some prawn crackers! They were delicious! Shireen class love to celebrate different cultures, festivals and try new things!
