As part of our “Rainforests” topic we have looked at the geographical differences and similarities between the Amazon Rainforest and our local area, Poplar. After learning some interesting facts about a native Amazonian tribe, the children have cretated and annotated their own pop-up city and rainforests landscapes, which was great FUN!
“My model is about Poplar, I put more man-made buildings than trees here. It is a busy place, it is part of London.”
“There are more differences than similarities between Poplar and the Amazon rainforest, Poplar has a lot more human features and the rainforest territory has more physical features. However, both places have their own rivers, here is the Amazon River in my model.”
“I loved this lesson because I had to use my creativity. I also enjoyed learning about the Yanomami Tribe in the Amazonas. It was interesting to know that they don’t have their own family homes but they live in huge, communal huts which can accomodate 400 people.”
