Floating and Sinking

Today for STEAM Day we have been learning about floating and sinking in our water tray.

First we had to find out what floating and sinking actually meant. We realised that if something floats, it will stay on top of the water and if something sinks, it will go under the water.

Once we understood what floating and sinking meant, we found our own objects we wanted to test.

Nora chose to test a plastic car. “I think it will sink.”
She was surprised to find that it actually floated.
Pharoah tested a wooden spoon “I think my spoon can float.”
“It floats.”
Safwah chose to test a plastic train. “It will sink.”
“What! It floats”

We had a lots of fun choosing objects to test, predicting if they would sink or float and then finding out.
