Below you will find a selection of resources designed to support you or your child with a range of concerns while schools are closed:
Resources to share with your child
- BBC Newsround have a range of up-to-date information on coronavirus for children. You can find this here
Social Stories
- Social stories are a good way of explaining things to children, particularly those with additional needs. This is one that can help explain to children what the coronavirus is
- This is another social story that explains about pandemics and viruses in general
- This social story has an emphasis on social distancing and not being able to go to favourite places
- This is an easy to read information sheet that explains about coronavirus in small chunks of information with visuals
Wellbeing
- The Children’s Commissioner have produced a guide to coronavirus aimed at children which addresses worries as well as offering suggestions to keep busy and happy
- ELSA have created a 14 day challenge for children. This is a series of activities you can do with your child to support their wellbeing
- General information and advice from Young Minds can be found here for older children to support them with managing their mental health
Advice and guidance
- The World Health Organisation have produced this useful information sheet on how to help children cope with stress during the coronavirus outbreak
- The World Health Organisation have published further information here for health workers, carers and people in isolation
- The British Psychological Society have produced an information sheet on talking to children about coronavirus
- The Anna Freud Centre have made a short video offering advice to parents and carers around supporting children’s wellbeing
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
