As part of our wider curriculum topic Community: Our Local Emergency Services, Year 2 had an exciting trip to Poplar Fire Station this week.

When we arrived, the firefighters gave us a warm welcome and told us all about the important jobs they do to keep people safe. We learned how quickly they need to get ready when there is an emergency and how the fire engines are always prepared with all the special equipment.

Children were fascinated by the different compartments in the truck.
Ava posing in front of the firetruck. She also said she wants to be a Police Officer in the future!
All the children had a look inside a real firetruck!

We were amazed to see the fire engine up close! The firefighters showed us inside the fire truck and explained what all the different buttons and tools were for. Everyone was so excited to have a turn with the water hose. Each pair had a go spraying water with their partner, just like real firefighters!

Arham had a blast!
Atik couldn’t wait to have a go!
Yusra enjoyed spraying water everywhere!

Safwan said “that’s so cool!”
Yusra and Maryam pretending to be firefighters too!

Children learnt that firefighter’s boots are extremely strong. She could not feel all the children stepping on it! Aamayah was curious about their uniform and asked lots of questions like “why do you have to wear helmets?”
Thank you to Eliza for taking pictures throughout the day!

The children had such an exciting time at Poplar Fire Station and learned so much about how firefighters keep us safe. They enjoyed exploring the fire engines, trying on helmets, and asking brilliant questions. A big thank you to the firefighters for welcoming us and showing us the amazing work they do every day. The trip has definitely inspired Year 2 to think about how they can help keep themselves and others safe too!
