Year 2 had an exciting Science Day filled with curiosity, teamwork and real scientific thinking. Our young scientists explored one of the big questions in biology: What makes something alive? They investigated living things, dead things, and things that have never been alive, and used their observation skills to sort and classify objects.

The children headed outside with their friends to explore the school grounds like real scientists. They searched all over the school grounds and discovered worms wriggling under the logs, fallen leaves, sticks, dead petals, and many other natural things.

Later in the day, the children used a Venn diagram to sort different objects into living, dead, and never been alive. They discussed their ideas with their partners and explained their choices using scientific language. It was wonderful to see them thinking carefully, comparing objects, and justifying where each one belonged. The Venn diagram helped them bring all their learning together and showed how confidently they could classify the world around them.
