The children in Hamilton Class have been busy exploring the wonderful world of life cycles! We learned that a life cycle shows the different stages a living thing goes through as it grows – and that it keeps repeating again and again.

We looked at lots of different life cycles, including plants, animals and humans. The children enjoyed sorting and matching activities, where they carefully put the stages of a frog and a chicken life cycle into the correct order.

We discovered that a chicken’s life cycle begins with an egg. Once the egg hatches, out pops a tiny chick, which then grows into a fully‑grown chicken. Frogs were just as exciting to learn about! A frog starts life as an egg, hatches into a tadpole, changes into a froglet, and finally becomes a frog. The children were fascinated watching how animals change as they grow.

To bring our learning to life, Hamilton Class even created their own actions and dance moves to represent different life cycles – learning has never been so much fun!

To show off their amazing knowledge, the children also drew the life cycle of a sunflower, from seed to flower. So if you’re ever unsure about how a sunflower grows, just ask one of the children in Reception – they’ll be happy to tell you all about it!
