This week, Tagore Class had a colourful and delicious afternoon where they worked together to make their very own fruit salads. The classroom was buzzing with excitement as everyone explored a variety of fruits, practised new skills and created a healthy snack to enjoy.
The session began with a discussion about food hygiene, where the children learned the importance of washing their hands, cleaning their equipment and keeping their workspace tidy. They showed great responsibility and followed all the steps carefully.
Next, the children learned two important cutting techniques used by real chefs like the bridge hold and the claw grip. They practised these safely while chopping bananas, apples, strawberries, grapes and oranges. It was wonderful to see how confident and sensible they were while using the knives with their learning partners.

Everyone worked brilliantly as a team, helping one another and taking turns. Once all the fruit was chopped, the children mixed everything together to create a bright and tasty fruit salad. The best part, of course, was getting to eat it. Many children were excited to share that they would make it again at home.

This DT Day activity helped the children develop their fine motor skills, practise following instructions and learn about healthy eating. We are very proud of how enthusiastic and independent they were throughout the session.
Well done, Tagore Class!
