To celebrate British Science Week, we invited some very special guests to come into Lansbury Lawrence School, to talk to pupils about their jobs involving Science. Our guests were people from our local community, so that included parents of 2 pupils, a relative of 1 pupil, and a local firefighter! The guest Scientists discussed their professional work, which all involve a deep passion, and knowledge, of Science. We had Daniel McGregor, who is a firefighter from Poplar fire station. We had Augostina Puppo, who is a water and food microbiologist. We had Rubina Begum, who is a clinal research professional for the NHS. And finally, we had Jefferson Santana, who is a professor of food and a chef. What an amazing, varied and inspirational group of Scientists they are. They did a fantastic of inspiring our pupils (and staff) by discussing and answering questions about their work. They explained key vocabulary related to their work, and most importantly, opened the pupils’ eyes up to the real world of work which has so many different science roles! Did you know that there are 9.4 million science related jobs according to the UK government website? Please continue to speak to your children about Science, to help them grow their curiosity and connection to Science!
