Rising Poets in Kahlo and Lichtenstein

by Fazana Ahmed | Feb 23, 2026 | Articulate, English, Imaginative, Kahlo Class 2025/26, Learning Dispositions, Lichtenstein Class 2025/26, Oracy, Resilient

Last half term, Year 5 had an unforgettable opportunity to take part in the Tower Hamlets Poetry Slam! Both Kahlo and Lichtenstein took part in exciting poetry workshops led by visiting poets Rakaya and Steve. The children explored performance poetry, learning how to use rhythm, expression, body language and powerful vocabulary to bring their writing to life. They experimented with tone, volume and pace, discovering that poetry is not just something you read, it is something you perform.

From each class, 12 children were selected to perform on stage at the Poetry Slam event. Performing in front of a live audience required confidence, resilience and courage and they rose to the challenge brilliantly.

We are incredibly proud to share some amazing achievements:
Lichtenstein Class – Best Group Performance (Being Extraordinary)
Kahlo Class – Ibrahim won Best Line (“Being very very angry is having a violent heart.”)

We are so proud of every child who took part. They represented the school beautifully and showed true courage on stage.
Well done Year 5, you were amazing!
