In today’s maths lesson, Year 3 worked incredibly hard as we revisited an activity we first tried at the beginning of the year- Strike it Out! This exciting game from nrich.maths.org helps us practise our addition and subtraction skills, while also challenging us to think strategically and work together.
The children showed fantastic focus and teamwork, remembering how to play and finding clever ways to plan their moves. It was great to see how much their confidence and mathematical thinking have grown since we first played the game!
Rayyan said, “I liked trying to find the best numbers to make sure I could have another turn! I also tried to trick my opponent but she was too clever!”
Mohammed added, “It made me think really carefully about adding and taking away. It was tricky but fun! Also, if you choose a small number and subtract from a large number you end up with a negative number and that is interesting!”
Maria shared, “I liked working with my partner and trying to see if I can strike before my opponent.”
Please enjoy the photos of our brilliant mathematicians in action!

Why not have a go at home?
All you need is a number line from 0 to 20 (you can draw one on paper) and two players. Take turns crossing out numbers, circling sums or differences, and see who can keep the game going the longest. It’s a brilliant way to make maths fun and practise number facts at the same time.
