Year 2 children had a brilliant day exploring London on our Tower Bridge trip. It was a sunny and a windy afternoon. We began our journey on the DLR from Poplar and got off at Tower Gateway ready for a full day of adventure.
As soon as we stepped out the sightseeing began. There was lots of walking but the children tackled it with so much enthusiasm. Every few steps someone gasped, “I know that” or “We learnt about that in geography.” They spotted the River Thames, the Shard and the Tower of London. They even spotted the bascule which linked beautifully to their history learning.

They even talked about how London has changed over time which linked beautifully to their history learning.

The children walked across the glass walkway and could see London from high above. They were amazed by the view and many of them gasped as they looked down through the glass. Some children even laid on the floor so they could enjoy the view with their friends, laughing and pointing out the tiny boats, buildings and people below.

The children also visited the engine room where they learned how the bridge used to work in the past. They saw the large engines and found out that they were once powered by steam. Today the bridge is powered by electricity instead, and the children enjoyed imagining what the old machinery would have sounded like.

. After our exciting visit we walked back to the DLR and travelled safely back to school, tired but happy after a wonderful day out together.
Reflections
Year 2 children, Adam and Ameenah typed their thoughts about the trip.
Adam:
Hello my name is Adam.
On Tuesday, I went to Tower Bridge with my class Tagore.
We saw landmarks like Tower Bridge London bridge and the Shard.
My favourite part was when l was walking on the glass with my class Tagore.
My trip with Tagore class was the best trip l went to in year 2 because l loved the Engine room and the glass bridge.
Ameenah:
Hi my name is Ameenah.
On Tuesday we went to Tower Bridge and we saw lot’s of landmarks like London Bridge and Tower of London.
In Tower Bridge we went on the glass floors, the engin rooms and the gift shop.
We laid down on the glass in the south tower and at the mirror on top of us.
In the north tower we sat on the glass and looked down it was scary but we still went on the glass floor.
Some of the children were scared so they went on the wooden part and held the railing.
My favourite part was when we went on the glass floor in the South Tower because we laid down and looked up at the mirror. The view was amazing!
