We have been very busy in Year 1 this half term and have enjoyed lots of exciting learning across different subjects.
In Art, we explored the work of Paul Klee and created our own castle pictures. We used rulers and shapes to design our castles and then carefully filled the shapes using watercolours and paintbrushes. We focused on using good control while painting and making our colours bright and clear.

In PSHE, we have been learning about keeping clean. We discussed different ways we can stay clean, such as brushing our teeth, using shampoo and washing our hands. Working in groups, we cut and stuck labels onto posters and talked about why these actions help us stay clean and healthy. We then presented our posters to the class and shared our ideas.

During P4C, we worked in groups to think deeply about the concept of bravery. We took part in a concept stretching activity where we discussed what it means to be brave and what might not be brave. Our big question was: Can you be brave even if you are scared? We shared thoughtful ideas and listened carefully to each other’s opinions.

In Geography, we are excited because we will be doing gardening and Forest School this term. Before starting our Friday lessons, we went outside to explore our school’s edible garden.

We took clipboards with us and used a simple map with a key and compass. We tried to identify three plants growing in the garden: coriander, spring onion and mustard leaf. On our maps we used C for coriander, S for spring onion and M for mustard leaf.

After exploring, we talked about which plant seemed the most popular — and we discovered that spring onion appeared the most!
We are looking forward to continuing our learning and spending more time in the garden this term! 🌿📚
