Last week we had our first week of the new term. We were introduced to our new story in English, called The Magic Paintbrush, and we had to make some predictions before we read it. We used a magic paintbrush of our own to paint over a piece of paper, then it revealed a hidden message. That was so fun! We slowly saw the letters appear, and some of us were shocked. When we read the story, we read about a girl called Shen who escapes from an evil emperor using her magic object. Maths was about fractions, so we looked at wholes, dividing and different parts. Blossom has new green leaves too – Blossom is our class plant.

New Topic: We also found out that our new topic is The Continents and Oceans of the World.

Inara – A continent is a place with many countries inside it. Did you know that the country Australia is the biggest country in a continent called Australasia. Also, that continent has another name, which is Oceania.

Amayah – The world is not full of just land because there is water called oceans too.

Adyan – We already know some facts! Did you know that Asia is the biggest continent. I think Asia might have 1,000 countries in it, and I wonder if more continents will form in the future.

Zuhayr – Our last topic was about the United Kingdom, so this topic is connected because it will be about maps and geography. The maps we look at can help us learn the capital cities of new countries.

Amber – I wonder if there are continents that we don’t know about yet!

Our Mural: We used a book called an atlas to check the names of the seven continents, then we had to find out the names of the oceans. There are five oceans. When we labelled the map correctly, we were happy. Our key tells you what the colours and symbols mean on our map.

We pointed to the continent that we live in. Do you know which one it is?
