Year 2, Delaunay class has started the year by doing something incredibly important, creating our Class Contract together. Rather than rules being handed down to them, the children worked collaboratively to decide what kind of classroom they want to learn in and belong to. This process wasn’t just about behaviour, it was about identity, ownership, and community.
We began by talking about the school rules and what it means to feel Safe, Respectful, Committed and what helps us feel happy, safe, and ready to learn. The children shared ideas and discussed what they wanted their classroom to feel like.
The children decided that being Safe meant that everyone felt confident to try new things, Respectful makes our classroom “a nice place to be” and that being Committed helps our brains to grow.
After lots of discussion, we created a Class Contract that everyone signed, children and adults. It’s displayed proudly in our room as a reminder of the promises we made to each other.
This contract isn’t just a list of rules. It’s a shared agreement about the kind of class we want to be, safe, respectful, and committed learners who look after themselves and each other.

Book Covers
This week, we also transformed our classroom into a mini art studio as we designed our very own book covers inspired by the artist Sonia Delaunay. The children were fascinated by her bold use of colour, repeating shapes, and rhythmic patterns, and they were eager to try out her style for themselves.
We began by looking closely at Delaunay’s artwork, noticing how she layered circles, lines, and blocks of colour to create movement. The children talked about how her designs felt “busy”, “happy”, and “full of energy”, which sparked brilliant ideas for their own covers.

Well done Delaunay Class on your great start to year 2!
